The Call
We are looking for a man whose love for Christ overflows into love for people — feeding, leading, and protecting the flock as an under-shepherd of Jesus.
Matt 22:37–40; John 21:15–17; John 13:34–35
A Senior Pastor must love our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, above all else. That relationship will show itself in loving care for God’s people and a desire to reach the unsaved. After Peter affirmed his love for Christ, the Lord commanded him to “feed His sheep.” A man of God will do likewise — known by his love for others.
1 Peter 5:1–4
As the under-shepherd, the Senior Pastor models Christlikeness to the people he serves, providing godly leadership, spiritual protection, and oversight. He seeks spiritual growth opportunities for all who attend FBC.
2 Tim 4:1–5; Titus 2:11–15
He affirms the complete inerrant authority of God’s Word and faithfully preaches from the Bible in an expository, evangelistic manner — nourishing the flock and protecting it from false doctrine.
Matt 28:18–20
The under-shepherd not only feeds the sheep but also leads and directs them wisely. He understands that Christ has given His Church a mission, and he keeps the congregation focused on that mission.

Working with ministry staff, leadership, and church members, he prayerfully establishes short- and long-term visions that are missional and evangelistic, adhering to the Great Commission.
The Senior Pastor needs strong administrative, managerial, interpersonal, and team-building skills — equipping staff and lay leaders so the whole body is built up to the glory of God.
This description represents an ideal, and we recognize that few pastors are gifted in every area. We are trusting the Lord to provide a man whose unique combination of gifts complements those of our church, so that together we may faithfully fulfill His mission.

Our Church
First Baptist Church began in 1931 as a home-missions work of Benton Street Baptist Church in Kitchener. God has grown this family in faith, number, and reach — including church plants across Waterloo Region and the ongoing ministry of Woodland Terrace, our seniors’ residence.
Today our congregation is growing in cultural diversity, with Korean and Persian congregations worshipping in their own languages, ministries for every age, and a live stream that carries the gospel around the world each Sunday.
Our Community
Waterloo is a city of about 129,000 in the heart of a region of 700,000 — home to the University of Waterloo, Wilfrid Laurier University, and Conestoga College, alongside a thriving technology sector and a rich Mennonite heritage.
Students, professionals, families, and newcomers from many nations live within minutes of our doors. Uptown Waterloo offers trails, markets, festivals, and a walkable centre — a place to put down roots while reaching a mission field that is already here.
