God’s Thoughts About Christmas!
Have you ever considered what God thinks about Christmas? Can we know what He thinks about Christmas?
What about the world? How do they view Christmas: commercialism, consumerism, Christmas parties, drinking, holidays, time off work, gifts, Christmas lights, Santa Claus, parades, family, travel, gratitude, and peace.
What about religious people? How do they view Christmas: Christ’s birth, nativity scenes, Christmas Eve services, Christmas Mass, family, family traditions, gifts, Christmas trees, Christmas lights, decorations, caroling, charity, gratitude, and peace.
What about believers? How do they view Christmas: Christ’s birth, the virgin birth, a Saviour is born, the incarnation, the fulfilment of prophecy, the nativity, Christmas Eve service, Christmas service, family, family traditions, gift giving, Christmas trees, Christmas lights, prayer, meditation, caroling, charity, gratitude, and peace.
What about God? Can we know what He thinks about Christmas?
My heart is led to John 3:16,
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
God’s thoughts about Christmas are the gift of His Son to the undeserving. This was on His heart even before the creation of the world. We read about this in 1 Peter 1:18-20,
18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; 19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: 20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you.
It’s incredible to think that God had undeserving sinners on His mind before the foundation of the world. His plan for them was to offer the precious gift of His Son to redeem undeserving sinners so they can be restored to Him through His Son.
I recently read a post on Facebook from one of our members at First Baptist Church. Their post caught my attention. It revealed to me that they clearly understood the gospel. This is what they wrote:
“This is Christmas! Not a gift I have ever or will ever deserve, but I'm so grateful to be held in this love, even in all of my unloveliness." (1 John 4:9, 14)
9 In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him.
14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.
God so loved you that He had you on His mind when He offered the priceless gift of His precious Son, at a great cost, that can only be received by faith in Jesus alone!
This Christmas, think about this truth: “God had the gift of His Son and you on His mind.” As we celebrate Christmas, may we ask ourselves: do we have Him and His Son on our mind, and are our hearts truly centered on the undeserving gift He gave, for your redemption and salvation?
