The Reason He Came
When we think about Christmas, we often picture lights, decorations, gifts,
and warm gatherings. But the reason Jesus himself gave for his coming is
very clear: He came “to seek and to save the lost.”
Zacchaeus was a man who was rejected by people and treated as a sinner.
Yet, out of the whole crowd, Jesus called him by name and chose to enter
his house. People pointed their fingers at Zacchaeus, but Jesus saw him
as “lost” and worth seeking. He did not give up on him—he went after him.
Christmas is not a day given to those who are “good enough,” but the day
when the Lord personally came to find people like us who had lost our way
and were wandering. Because we could not go up to God on our own,
God came down to us—that is what Christmas is.
As we celebrate Christmas, may we be able to pray like this:
“Lord, if the reason you came was to seek and to save someone like me
who was lost, then I want to live my life praying for and reaching out in love to
those who are still lost today. The same love with which you came and found me
—please let me share that love with someone else.”
Merry Christmas!
